Pu-erh is traditionally an elite kind of tea, which for many centuries has been produced in YunnanProvince, the homeland of the tea tree. In the old days, this tea has been brought as tribute to the Emperor’s court. The tea has been awarded its name after the trade city of Pu-erh or Mount Pu-erh – the tea’s primary area of production. The tea’s singularity comes from the specifics of its processing – so called double fermentation. The rich dark-red infusion combines purity of a sustained aged aroma, which carries a complex bouquet of various fragrances, and a light freshness of its mild taste followed by a slightly sweet aftertaste. With time, if stored appropriately, the quality of Pu-erh only improves. Aged examples of this sort are as expensive as vintage wines. Pu-erh possesses a wide array of medicinal qualities.
