Jiu Qu Hong Mei belongs to the category of red leaf gongfu teas. The sort is produced in the city of Hangzhou in the Xi Hu lake area – the same region the renowned Xi Hu Long Jing sort comes from. This is why Jiu Qu Hong Mei is sometimes referred to as Red Dragon Well. The history of its cultivation counts more than one and a half century. In 1886 on the Panama Pacific International Exposition the tea won the first prize and right away gained enormous popularity. Raw material for this tea includes only choice young flushes containing a delicate bud and two barely opened leaves. Carefully rolled brownish-red leaves posses a glossy luster and are large and fancifully curved. The drink has a fresh and pure full-bodied flavor with a rich aftertaste, and a deep plum aroma.
